Yamaha Built the TY Line Around Trials Competition
Yamaha identifies the 1973 TY250 as its first production trials motorcycle. It used an air-cooled two-stroke single-cylinder engine derived from the DT250 on a trials-specific frame, and Yamaha later expanded the TY range across 175cc, 125cc, 80cc and 50cc classes. PartsNMore inventory reflects several of those displacements, with the strongest coverage for TY250 and TY175 applications plus selected TY350, TY80 and TY50 parts.
The TY250 name also spans major generations. Yamaha’s 1984 TY250 Scottish was a street-legal version related to the TY250R, while the 1990s TY250Z was a newer liquid-cooled competition platform with an aluminum Deltabox frame. A listing tagged TY250 is therefore not automatically correct for every air-cooled TY250, TY250R, Scottish or TY250Z. The model suffix and year are essential.
