PW50 and PW80 Are Different Youth Motorcycles
Yamaha developed the PW50 as a small entry-level youth motorcycle and introduced it for broad markets from the 1981 model year. Its automatic drivetrain, shaft drive and hand-operated brake controls give it a different mechanical layout from the larger PW80. Yamaha’s PW80 uses an automatic centrifugal clutch with a three-speed gearbox and different chassis, suspension and control components.
Do not treat PW50 and PW80 as interchangeable because both carry the PW name. Match the exact model, production year, front or rear position, Yamaha reference number and critical dimensions on the product listing. Historical rider-size guidance is not a substitute for adult supervision, proper safety equipment or the applicable owner’s manual.
