About the Honda CT70

A small Honda with a major parts distinction: CT70K or manual-clutch CT70H.

Honda Motorcycle Logo

Honda’s CT70 family uses a compact air-cooled four-stroke engine. In Honda’s early CT70/CT70H service specifications, the CT70 has a three-speed transmission and centrifugal automatic clutch, while the H uses a four-speed transmission and a hand-operated clutch.

Start with the clutch and transmission

Those differences matter most when choosing clutch and engine service parts. Our CT70K and CT70H collections also carry different carburetor, ignition and chassis applications. A product listing for one version must explicitly include the other before it is treated as shared fitment.

Know your motorcycle before orderingHonda CT70 model and year differences

The clutch distinction is a practical first check. Confirm the full model and year before selecting parts from either collection.

Check the complete model year

CT70K · automatic clutch

The CT70K collection groups applications for the familiar automatic-clutch Trail 70.

Parts checkpoint: Featured gasket set 18-0306 lists CT70K 1970–1981; that does not establish CT70H coverage.

Featured applications: 1971–1972

CT70H · manual clutch

The early H specification uses a four-speed transmission with a hand-operated clutch.

Parts checkpoint: Use an explicit CT70H listing, including for ignition and fuel-system parts.

Frame, engine and fitted componentsHonda CT70 identification checklist

Use the complete identifiers and the correct model-year documentation. Check the engine and chassis separately when parts have been exchanged.

  • Model and year: Record the complete frame stamping and confirm the exact year and market designation.
  • Clutch controls: Identify a hand-operated clutch and the fitted transmission. Use the engine markings as well if the bike has been converted.
  • Ignition: Check whether the original points arrangement remains fitted before choosing points or a condenser.
  • Carburetor and brakes: Identify the carburetor body and the actual brake hub. Match a front-brake listing to the front wheel, not either end by assumption.

Need help identifying a part? Send the complete model and year, clear photos of the markings and the dimensions of the original component to our parts team.

Honda CT70 parts questions

What is the main difference between CT70K and CT70H for parts shopping?
The early CT70/CT70K arrangement uses a three-speed transmission with an automatic centrifugal clutch. The CT70H uses a four-speed transmission and a hand-operated clutch. Confirm the actual engine and controls on a modified bike.
Does a CT70K gasket listing also cover CT70H?
Only if CT70H is explicitly included. Featured set 18-0306 lists CT70K 1970–1981 and does not establish CT70H fitment.
Can I select parts for a CT70 with a replacement engine by frame year?
The frame year helps identify the chassis. Engine, clutch, carburetor and ignition parts must also match the replacement assembly actually fitted.
Are the featured CT70 brake shoes for both wheels?
Part 29-3100 is listed as front brake shoes for CT70K 1970–1982. Check a separate confirmed application for the rear wheel or for CT70H.
