About the Yamaha FJ600

Service the FJ600’s carburetors, brakes and clutch without blending different catalogue years.

Yamaha Motorcycle Logo

The 1984 FJ600 paired a 598cc inline four with a six-speed transmission, chain drive and a frame-mounted half fairing. Period testing describes four Mikuni CV carburetors and a single-shock rear suspension. Those details place it within Yamaha’s 1980s middleweight sport-bike range while giving it its own service requirements.

Sharing an FJ name with a larger Yamaha, or appearing beside an XJ or FZ in a product title, does not confirm interchange. Use the FJ600 application within the listing, then check the year and the assembly fitted to your motorcycle.

Keep later catalogue entries attached to their own parts

The featured caliper kit lists 1984–1985 and 1988. That does not turn its coverage into an uninterrupted 1984–1988 range, nor does it extend the 1984–1985 carburetor kit. The catalogue also contains a separate 1989 fork-seal entry; verify the motorcycle’s market and fork before using that application.

Core repair applications

The carburetor kit, brake pads and clutch plate featured below each list FJ600 1984–1985.

Parts checkpoint: Check kit contents and plate quantity for your repair.

Separate later entries

Preserve gaps in the catalogue

The caliper kit lists 1984–1985, 1988. A separate fork-seal product lists 1984–1985, 1989.

Parts checkpoint: Neither listing establishes all intervening years.

Market and equipment

L and LC fuel-system details

The 1984 LC version has California fuel-vapour equipment. Record the complete model label before comparing fuel-system parts.

Parts checkpoint: Use the carburetor and hose arrangement actually fitted.

Identify your motorcycle before orderingYamaha FJ600 identification checklist

  1. Record the complete FJ600 model label, year and market designation.
  2. Compare carburetor markings and any fuel-vapour equipment before ordering a rebuild kit.
  3. Identify the brake caliper and its position; for suspension work, measure the removed seal and inspect any replacement fork.

Yamaha FJ600 parts questions

Do the featured FJ600 carburetor kits cover the later catalogue years?
The selected carburetor kit lists 1984–1985 only. A later year appearing on a brake or suspension product does not extend carburetor-kit fitment.
Does the FJ600 caliper kit’s 1988 entry also cover 1986 and 1987?
The listing specifies 1984–1985 and 1988. It does not establish 1986 or 1987 fitment. Match the actual caliper, position and model-year application.
What does LC mean on a 1984 FJ600?
The 1984 FJ600LC is the California version, with additional fuel-vapour equipment. Keep the complete model designation when comparing carburetors, hose routing and fuel-system parts.
Is one FJ600 clutch plate enough for a complete clutch rebuild?
The featured plate is sold individually and lists 1984–1985. A complete repair requires checking the plate types, clutch-stack arrangement, condition and quantity needed for your motorcycle.
