About the Yamaha XS250
An oil filter, its housing seal and a carburetor float each need their own application check.
The XS250 examples below span different service applications without forming a single interchangeable range. The oil filter lists XS250 for 1978–1981, the housing O-ring lists XS250 for 1978–1982 and XS250S for 1980–1981, and the carburetor float lists XS250 for 1982–1984.
Separate the filter element from the housing seal
An O-ring seals the filter housing or cover; it does not replace the filter element. Likewise, the later carburetor float controls fuel level within its own carburetor assembly. Check the housing and carburetor fitted to the motorcycle rather than carrying one part’s range across all three items.

Filter and O-ring coverage differs
The O-ring’s XS250 listing extends to 1982, while the featured filter’s XS250 application ends in 1981. An O-ring match does not establish which filter element a 1982 motorcycle needs.
Later carburetor-float application
The float lists XS250 for 1982–1984. Compare its shape, hinge arrangement and carburetor identification; a matching oil-filter application is not evidence for float fitment.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingXS250 identification & fitment checks
- Record XS250 or XS250S and the exact year, including the engine identification if the engine has been changed.
- Compare the filter element dimensions and the housing O-ring groove independently.
- Identify the fitted carburetor and compare the float shape and hinge-pin arrangement before ordering.
