About the Honda CT90 Trail 90

Use the Trail 90’s engine, fork and intake layout to identify the restoration project.

Honda Motorcycle Logo

The Trail 90 name spans more than one engine design. Honda’s CT200 used an 87 cc overhead-valve engine; the CT90 introduced an overhead-cam engine in 1966. Early CT90s retained two rear sprockets, while the later K0 used an auxiliary transmission. Identify the engine itself before choosing a gasket or carburetor part.

The 1969 change affects more than the front fork

Honda’s 1969 K1 brought telescopic forks, a rear-facing carburetor and a side-mounted air cleaner. These are useful checks when a bike is advertised simply as a “Trail 90.” Use this family page to identify the model; the CT90K repair page compares the actual parts and package details.

CT200 predecessor87 cc overhead-valve engine.A Trail 90 badge does not establish CT90 engine fitment.
Early CT90 K0Overhead-cam engine, bottom-link front suspension; early examples use two rear sprockets.Identify the fitted carburetor before using the 1966–1968 kit.
Later K0Auxiliary transmission replaces the double-sprocket arrangement.Record which transmission and engine are actually fitted.
1969 K1Telescopic fork, revised intake orientation and air-cleaner location. The early carb kit does not list 1969.
1970 K2 / 1972 K4K2 adds swivel-lock handlebars; K4 adds the auxiliary fuel tank.Useful restoration clues; replacement accessories do not prove model year.
1974 K5 onwardIndicators become standard on the U.S. K5; later CT90 models continue through 1979.Check the bike’s identifiers and the separate application of every electrical or service part.

Honda CT90 Trail 90 parts questions

Is a CT200 Trail 90 the same as a Honda CT90?
No. The CT200 uses an overhead-valve engine, while the CT90 introduced an overhead-cam engine in 1966. Identify the engine markings and layout before choosing gaskets or carburetor parts; the Trail 90 name alone is insufficient.
What changed on the 1969 CT90 K1?
Honda identifies telescopic front forks, a rear-facing carburetor and a revised air-cleaner location among the changes. The featured early carburetor kit lists 1966–1968 only, so confirm a separate 1969 application.
Why does PartsNMore use CT90K for the service-parts collection?
CT90K is the model designation used in these product applications. The CT90 family page helps identify the bike; the CT90K page compares carb kits, floats, engine gaskets, brake shoes and clutch plates by their individual year ranges.
Can the auxiliary tank or handlebars identify my CT90 year?
They are useful clues: Honda records swivel-lock handlebars on K2 and the auxiliary fuel tank on K4. These parts can be changed, so confirm the frame and engine markings and fitted component before ordering.
