About the Honda CM400T
Manual-clutch CM400T repairs, with the 1979 and 1981 differences made clear.
The CM400T combines Honda’s air-cooled 395 cc parallel twin with a manual clutch, front disc brake and rear drum brake. Some service parts span 1979–1981, but carburetor and front hydraulic kits need closer year matching. A replacement master cylinder or carburetor also needs identification from the component itself.
Match the year and the brake position
Front pads, rear shoes and the front master cylinder are three separate service items. Clutch friction and steel plates are also different parts, sold individually. Keep those distinctions with your order instead of treating a general CM400T year range as a complete kit fitment.

1979 carburetor check
The 1980–1981 kit does not establish 1979 fitment. Compare the carburetor identification before substituting it.
Front hydraulic unit
The master-cylinder kit lists 1981. Confirm the unit fitted rather than applying that coverage to 1979 or 1980.
Manual clutch
The T friction and steel plate listings cover 1979–1981. They are individual components and are separate from Hondamatic transmission work.
Frame and component identificationHonda CM400T frame numbers and identification
- Record the complete CM400 suffix, frame number, engine number and model year.
- Confirm the transmission type and the brake equipment actually fitted.
- Read the carburetor body identification before choosing a kit.
- Compare replacement forks, wheels or engines with the original model specification.
Selected factory starting-frame references only; these are not complete VINs or full production ranges. Match the model designation and entire frame stamping. No ending serial numbers are inferred. Shared numeric beginnings do not identify the transmission.
