About the Honda CRF230L

Front brake, carburetor and tank parts selected around the CRF230L dual-sport.

Honda Motorcycle Logo

Honda’s CRF230L is the dual-sport member of the CRF230 range, using a 223cc air-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder engine. Its road-and-trail role does not make its fuel and brake components interchangeable with the CRF230F trail bike. The L suffix remains essential when selecting service parts.

Match the carburetor and tank separately from the brake kit

The float, tank cap and front pad set below each name CRF230L 2008. The front master-cylinder repair kit separately covers 2008–2009. A broader hydraulic-kit application does not extend the float or cap to another year. If the carburetor, tank or handlebar controls have been replaced, identify that assembly before using the original motorcycle’s parts application.

Compare before orderingCRF230L repair parts by model and year

These years apply to the linked parts. They are not complete motorcycle production ranges or confirmation that other parts interchange.

Selected CRF230L repair part applications
ModelRepair partListed yearsBefore ordering
CRF230LFront master-cylinder repair2008–2009Match the original or replacement front cylinder before selecting its internal repair kit.
CRF230LCarburetor float replacement2008Compare the float and hinge arrangement; related valve parts are separate.
CRF230LFuel tank cap replacement2008Match the fitted tank’s filler neck and cap arrangement, especially with a replacement tank.
CRF230LFront brake friction service2008Compare the front caliper and pad profile; the separate hydraulic-kit range does not establish 2009 pad fitment.

For the off-road trail model, use CRF230F fuel-tap and brake parts. Return to the CRF230 model comparison if the suffix is uncertain.

Identify your motorcycle before orderingCRF230L identification checklist

Use the motorcycle’s markings, model-year paperwork and fitted components together. This checklist does not assign frame or engine serial ranges.

CRF230L identification and component checks
CheckWhat to confirm
L designationRetain CRF230L and the model year; do not substitute an F-model application.
Carburetor identityCompare body markings, float shape and hinge arrangement with the fitted carburetor.
Tank fillerCheck the cap style, filler neck and any replacement tank before selecting the cap.
Front brake componentsCompare the master cylinder and caliper separately; each repair part has its own application.

Honda CRF230L parts questions

Does the 2008 CRF230L carburetor float listing also cover 2009?
The float lists CRF230L 2008 only. The front master-cylinder kit’s 2008–2009 application belongs to that kit and does not extend the float range. Confirm the fitted carburetor before selecting a float for another year.
Can I use the CRF230F fuel petcock application for a CRF230L?
The F-model petcock entry does not establish L-model compatibility. Keep CRF230L in the fitment check and compare the tank mounting and fitted tap before choosing a replacement or repair kit.
Will the CRF230L tank cap fit an aftermarket tank?
The cap’s CRF230L 2008 application does not confirm an aftermarket tank. Compare the replacement tank’s filler neck, cap attachment and venting arrangement with the cap specification. Use the tank manufacturer’s requirements when the original tank has been replaced.
Why do the CRF230L front brake pads and master-cylinder kit show different years?
They are separate components with separate catalog applications. The front pad set lists L 2008, while the front master-cylinder kit lists L 2008–2009. Use the year entry for the component you are replacing.
