About the Kawasaki KDX420
Four front-end service jobs for the KDX420, each with its own fitment checks.
The KDX420 collection is concentrated on the front end: fork oil seals, steering bearings, front drum-brake shoes and a brake lever. These are useful starting points for assessing an older off-road machine before a return to riding. Inspecting the assemblies together helps distinguish a fork leak, steering notch or brake-control problem without assuming one repair will correct all three.
Identify the steering assembly before stripping it
Record the fork and steering-stem arrangement before removing bearings, particularly if the motorcycle has received a replacement front end. The KDX400 and KDX420 pages share some service listings, but their selected steering-bearing kits differ. Brake shoes and lever fit also need to match the installed drum and controls.

Use the checkpoints below to prepare the parts list for your repair.
Steering bearings
KDX420 has its own selected kit
The featured steering kit lists KDX420 1981. The KDX400 selection uses a different kit, so compare bearing and stem dimensions rather than assuming interchangeability.
Fork service
Inspect before resealing
The selected fork oil seals list KDX420 1981. Check tube condition and sliding play so worn or damaged components do not undermine the new seals.
Front drum brake
Check the whole control path
The front shoes and brake lever service different parts of the system. Inspect cable operation, the brake cam, shoe contact area and drum condition before selecting replacements.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingKDX420 identification checklist
Record the motorcycle’s identification and check for replacement assemblies before choosing service parts.
- Record the frame identification and model year from the motorcycle and documentation.
- Photograph the fork, yokes and steering stem before dismantling, and note any replacement front end.
- Compare the steering bearings, seal dimensions, front brake shoes and lever pivot with the selected products.
Contact PartsNMore with the model year, frame and engine markings and clear photos of the component being repaired.
