About the Kawasaki KZ400
Find the right repair parts for your KZ400 twin, from the early D and S to the Deluxe and LTD.
The Kawasaki KZ400 family includes motorcycles with different brakes, gearboxes, carburetors and touring equipment. Early D models use a hydraulic front disc; the S uses a cable-operated front drum. The A Deluxe is a five-speed touring model, while the later B and H LTD have six-speed specifications. These differences matter when you buy service parts.
Choose parts by model, year and repair
Start with the complete model code, then the component you are repairing. The carburetor kit below covers A 1977–1978, D 1976 and S 1976–1977. Engine gasket sets have separate A and B applications, even where the years overlap. For brakes, identify the wheel position and whether the fitted assembly uses a cable or hydraulics.

Record the complete frame stamping at the steering head and the engine number on the crankcase. An engine replacement can leave a motorcycle with frame and engine identities from different versions.
How to read this chart: These are starting entries transcribed from model specification sheets. They are not complete production ranges or a VIN decoder, and they do not establish part interchange. The trailing continuation mark is omitted.

Some factory sheets combine more than one year, and some models have additional plant or market entries. The 1975 S starts and the C1 frame start are omitted because the available references disagree. No A2-only or H1 year-by-year range is inferred.
For a changed carburetor, front brake, fork or airbox, identify the fitted component as well as the bike. Photograph its markings and compare the product’s exact application before ordering.
