About the Yamaha YZ50
Three useful chassis and carburetor repair options for the YZ50.
Yamaha’s off-road history records YZ50 shipments to the United States beginning in 1979, before the PW50’s 1980 debut. The two names belong to different motorcycles. For a YZ50 restoration, preserve that distinction and identify the forks, carburetor and steering assembly actually fitted to the bike.
Plan fork, steering and carburetor sealing work
For fork work, compare the seal’s full size and profile with the original and inspect the tubes. At the steering head, identify the stem and bearing seats before choosing a kit. For a bowl leak, compare the gasket outline and screw pattern with the carburetor rather than choosing from engine size.

1980 product applications
All three repair examples below list YZ50 1980. Do not apply that year to every other Yamaha 50 model or broaden it to unlisted years.
Steering bearings versus fork seals
These service different locations. Check the steering stem and frame bearing seats for the kit, and the old seal dimensions for fork work.
