About the Honda CM400E
Keep the economy-model CM400’s drum brakes and manual clutch straight.
The CM400E pairs Honda’s 395 cc air-cooled parallel twin with a five-speed manual transmission. Factory equipment includes spoked wheels and a front drum brake. A motorcycle converted to a disc front brake needs service parts selected from the fitted fork, wheel and brake assembly.
Rebuild the carburetors or refresh the clutch
The carb kit, friction plate and steel plate below cover E 1980–1981. Compare the carburetor body and old clutch components before ordering, then establish the quantities needed. Rear brake shoe coverage is separate from the front drum, even though both brakes use shoes.
Model and application differencesCM400E front drum, manual clutch and service years
Front drum brake
The original E front brake uses shoes, not disc pads. Identify any conversion before buying brake components.
Manual five-speed drivetrain
The E uses clutch friction and steel plates. It differs from the CM400A Hondamatic even where some engine parts share applications.
1980–1981 service parts
The carb, clutch and rear shoe listings cover these E years. Confirm the individual product and fitted component.
