About the Honda GL500 Silver Wing
Keep the Silver Wing’s engine service and version-specific chassis parts organized by repair.
Honda’s GL500 Silver Wing combines a liquid-cooled V-twin and shaft drive with Pro-Link rear suspension. The standard model and GL500I Interstate share selected engine service parts, but their front brakes differ. Use GL500 as the starting point for the standard bike and retain I when selecting Interstate applications.
Standard or Interstate: look at the front brakes
The standard GL500 has a single front disc; the Interstate has twin front discs. Both use a rear drum. The carburetor kit, top-end gasket set, rear casing gasket and rear shoes linked here list both versions for 1981–1982.

Front brake and fork
Count the fitted front discs and photograph the caliper. For seals, distinguish the fork oil seal from the dust seal above it; they are different components with separate applications.
Rear casing or top-end repair
Find the engine joint being opened before ordering a gasket set. The rear casing gasket seals the rear engine case joint; the top-end set is the featured option for upper-engine gasket work. Compare set contents before adding separate gaskets.
