DS5-E, YDS-5, DS6 and DS7 Names

Yamaha's official collection identifies the 1967 production motorcycle as DS5-E and describes it as the successor to the YDS series, while period Yamaha material also uses the YDS-5 name. Yamaha then documents the 1969 DS6 as a distinct 250-class two-stroke twin and separately identifies DS6-C as its scrambler variation. The DS7 appears in Yamaha's 1971 material and in Yamaha USA's 1972 parts catalog. Use the full model, market designation and year rather than treating every DS or YDS spelling as interchangeable.

The current DS-tagged inventory contains a 32 x 44 x 10.5 mm fork seal listing for DS5-E/YDS-5 and DS6 applications, plus a separate 34 x 46 x 10.5 mm listing for DS7. The Suzuki DS185 tag on one shared product is unrelated to this Yamaha family and is not counted as a Yamaha DS model.

Match the Installed Fork and Seal Size

The current products are dimension-led fork seals, not evidence of shared complete fork assemblies. Compare the removed seal's inside diameter, outside diameter and height, confirm the fork tube and slider, and check any original part reference before ordering. The DS7-tagged seal is currently an active zero-stock listing, while the DS5-E/YDS-5 and DS6 seal is stocked.

Cross-listing with RD, DT, MX, YZ or another manufacturer applies only to the named seal. It does not establish broad fork, wheel or chassis interchange. PartsNMore has supplied motorcycle parts since 2002. Free shipping is available to the USA and Canada on orders over $50.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are DS5-E and YDS-5 the same Yamaha model name?
Yamaha's restored-model page uses DS5-E for 1967, while period Yamaha material uses YDS-5. Treat them as market or catalog designations to verify against the motorcycle, not as permission for blanket interchange.
Is Yamaha DS6-C included with DS6 parts?
Not automatically. Yamaha documents DS6-C as a separate scrambler variation, and the current PartsNMore products do not carry a DS6-C tag.
Do Yamaha DS6 and DS7 use the same fork seals?
Not in the current catalog. DS5-E/YDS-5 and DS6 are listed with 32 x 44 x 10.5 mm seals, while DS7 is listed with 34 x 46 x 10.5 mm seals. Measure the installed fork.
Do Yamaha YDS, DS and RD parts interchange?
Only when a specific product lists the exact model and year and its dimensions or verified reference match. Historical lineage is not fitment proof.
