About the Kawasaki ZX1000A
Carburetor kits, engine gaskets and suspension seals for restoring the A-model Ninja 1000R.
The 1986 ZX1000-A1 appears in Kawasaki’s parts archive as the Ninja 1000R. Retain the A designation when searching for service parts: the later ZX1000B is a separate model with different carburetor and fork-seal products.
Choose a ZX1000A carburetor kit or engine gasket set
The carburetor kit, fork seals and clutch slave-cylinder kit below fit ZX1000A 1986–1987. The engine gasket set has a separate 1986–1988 application. For carburetor work, compare the carburetor markings and supplied service pieces. For engine resealing, compare the included gaskets with the joints you plan to open; the gasket set’s extra year does not extend the other parts’ fitment.
Model and year comparisonZX1000A parts differences
Years apply to the part. Check its full fitment and the component fitted to your motorcycle before ordering.
| Model | Repair part | years | Before ordering |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZX1000A | Carburetor overhaul | 1986–1987 | Check the bowl gasket, jets, O-rings and float-valve pieces supplied. Confirm how many kits the planned repair needs. |
| ZX1000A | Engine resealing | 1986–1988 | Compare the included gasket list with the covers or engine joints being opened. Do not assume every engine seal is supplied. |
| ZX1000A | Fork oil-seal replacement | 1986–1987 | Compare the 40 mm inside diameter and full seal profile. Inspect the fork tube for damage before fitting replacement seals. |
| ZX1000A | Clutch slave-cylinder service | 1986–1987 | Use the A-model slave kit after checking the cylinder condition. The master cylinder at the handlebar uses a separate kit. |
For the later motorcycle, use ZX1000B repair parts. Return to the ZX1000 model comparison if the model code is uncertain.

Compare the motorcycle’s identification markings and model-year documents with the components actually fitted.
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| A designation | Record the complete ZX1000-A model designation rather than relying only on Ninja or 1000R badges. |
| Engine sealing | Compare engine markings, gasket outlines, oil passages and the package contents with the planned teardown. |
| Fork oil seal | The example lists a 40 mm inside diameter; compare all seal dimensions and the lip profile. |
| Slave cylinder | Match the actual slave cylinder and inspect its bore and piston before planning a seal repair. |
