About the Yamaha XS850G
Fork, cable and exhaust repairs for the XS850G, with the measurements that help you choose.
The XS850G is part of Yamaha’s 826cc DOHC triple family with shaft final drive. Its fork, clutch cable and exhaust joints each need a different kind of parts check. Keeping the old seal, cable or gasket available for comparison is useful when a previous owner has changed the handlebars, front end or exhaust.
Match the exhaust joint before choosing its gasket
The muffler-joint gasket below measures 40.5 × 44.5 × 25 mm and lists XS850G 1980. Identify the connection being resealed and compare all three dimensions; other joints can use different gaskets. For fork work, the 1980 G oil-seal set specifies 36 × 48 × 11 mm. Check the fitted fork as well as the model label.

Fork oil seals
36 × 48 × 11 mm
The oil-seal set below lists XS850G 1980. Dust boots are checked separately from the seals that retain fork oil.
Parts checkpoint: Compare the removed seal’s dimensions and profile, and inspect the tube surface.

The G-model clutch cable lists 1980. A handlebar change can alter the cable path.
Parts checkpoint: Match length, inner-wire travel, adjusters, lever end and engine end.
Muffler joints
40.5 × 44.5 × 25 mm gasket
This individual gasket lists XS850G 1980 and seals a matching exhaust slip-joint.
Parts checkpoint: Identify the joint location and compare dimensions before choosing the quantity.

Use the motorcycle’s own markings. For an imported or modified bike, include the market and photos of the assembly being repaired.
- Model and market: Record the complete model designation and model year from the motorcycle label and matching documents.
- Frame and engine: Photograph the frame/VIN marking and engine number separately. A replacement engine needs its own identification.
- Fitted component: Note fork-seal dimensions, clutch-cable ends and the exact exhaust joint, as relevant to the repair.
- Product match: Compare the exact model-year application, dimensions and package contents. Confirm any unlisted year or component mismatch before ordering.
