About the Honda CL450K
K-version differences and exact service-part applications for a CL450 restoration.
The K suffix groups several versions of Honda's DOHC CL450 Scrambler. Honda's factory supplement compares K3/K4 with K5 and documents changes to the front forks, seat and frame arrangements, exhaust components and instruments. That makes the full version useful when a restoration includes more than routine engine service.
The K5 front fork uses a different internal arrangement from K3/K4; the manual does not list those complete forks as interchangeable. The seat and frame also changed, and the speedometer and tachometer positions were reversed. These features can help identify an assembly, but they do not replace the frame and engine records.

K3 / K4 reference
Earlier fork and body assemblies
Keep the earlier fork, seat and exhaust configuration together when identifying parts. The factory supplement compares these assemblies with the later K5 changes.
K5 reference
Fork, seat and exhaust changes
The supplement documents a revised fork design, seat/frame arrangements and exhaust components. Compare the installed assembly before selecting individual service parts.
Product year limits
Different ranges for different repairs
The featured carb kit stops at 1971, the gasket set continues through 1974 and the clutch plate stops at 1973. A version identification does not override those individual applications.
Frame, engine and fitted componentsHonda CL450K identification checklist
- Record the complete frame and engine markings, then verify the K version, model year and market with the correct documentation.
- Identify whether the fitted front fork follows the earlier or later construction; compare the full seal profile and dimensions.
- Photograph the carburetor markings and intake holders, including spigot diameter, mounting pattern and angle.
- Record changed seats, exhausts, controls and instruments as assembly clues; do not use them alone to assign a production year.
