About the Honda CR250R
A long-running two-stroke race model with distinctly different service applications.
The CR250R changed substantially during its development. Honda’s 1981 model brought liquid cooling and Pro-Link rear suspension, while the 1997 version adopted an aluminum frame. A familiar CR250R badge therefore cannot settle the engine or chassis specification on its own.

The parts featured here demonstrate the difference: the fork oil-seal set lists 1983–1988, the engine gasket set lists 1992–2001 and the rear pads list 1987–2001. These are individual product applications, not a single range for a complete rebuild.
Know your motorcycle before orderingHonda CR250R model and year differences
The following checkpoints explain why several CR250R service parts can have different starting and ending years.
1981 landmark
Liquid-cooled CR250R
Honda paired liquid cooling with Pro-Link suspension for the 1981 CR250R.
Parts checkpoint: The featured clutch plate lists 1981–1982, but the featured gasket set begins in 1992.
1997 landmark
Aluminum-frame CR250R
An aluminum frame identifies a later stage of CR250R development.
Parts checkpoint: Confirm the engine and fitted chassis parts as well as the frame year; aftermarket and replacement assemblies need their own checks.
Frame, engine and fitted componentsHonda CR250R identification checklist
Use the complete identifiers and the correct model-year documentation. Check the engine and chassis separately when parts have been exchanged.
- Year and designation: Record the complete frame/VIN and confirm the year and market. Keep the R suffix in every application search.
- Engine and cylinder: Photograph the engine stamping and identify any replacement engine or cylinder before choosing a gasket set.
- Forks: Compare fork type, seal markings and dimensions with the product listing. A donor fork follows its own service application.
- Rear brake: Check the installed rear caliper and old pad profile; rear pads are not a front-brake application.
