About the Honda CRF230

Honda’s CRF230F and CRF230L share a 223cc air-cooled four-stroke single-cylinder description, but they were built for different uses. The F is an off-road trail motorcycle; the L is the dual-sport version. Their common displacement does not establish shared carburetor, fuel-tank or brake components.

CRF230F and CRF230L: which repair guide do you need?

The F trail bike and L dual-sport share a 223cc engine description, but their service parts must be checked separately. The F has a front disc and rear drum brake, so a rear hydraulic master-cylinder kit is not a service part for its original rear brake. Some front hydraulic parts cover both models; the carburetor float and fuel-tap applications below remain model-specific.

Are Honda CRF230F and CRF230L service parts interchangeable?
Only where an individual product explicitly lists both models and the required years. Their shared 223cc engine description is not a compatibility rule. The front master-cylinder kit lists both suffixes, while the carburetor float names L 2008 only.
Does the CRF230F use a rear master cylinder?
The CRF230F’s original rear brake is a drum, so a rear hydraulic master-cylinder kit is not the correct service part for that assembly. The hydraulic kit featured in this guide is for the front brake.
Which model uses the carburetor float on this CRF230 page?
The float lists Honda CRF230L 2008. It does not establish a CRF230F application or an L-model 2009 application. Compare the fitted carburetor and the full product listing.
Can I extend a CRF230 part to a missing year between listed ranges?
