About the Honda CX500C Custom
Custom carburetor, fork and control applications change by year.
The CX500C brought a teardrop tank, pull-back handlebars and shorter mufflers to Honda’s North American CX500 range for 1979. It retained the family’s liquid-cooled V-twin and shaft drive, with a riding position and bodywork suited to the Custom style.
On a restored or modified CX500C, handlebar height, cable reach and the fitted master cylinder deserve attention. Keep the C suffix when comparing chassis parts, even where an engine service item also lists the Deluxe.
CX500C carburetor and fork-seal year splits
The selected carb kit covers 1980–1982 Customs. The featured fork oil seals include 1979–1980, while the separate dust seals list 1981–1982. These are product-specific ranges: later dust-seal coverage does not establish the oil-seal size for a later fork.

1980–1982 kit application
The CX500C/CX500D kit featured here explicitly includes the Custom for 1980–1982. It does not establish the same kit for 1979.
Parts checkpoint: Use the fitted carburetor and contents list, not the C badge alone.

Oil seals and dust seals
The linked 33 × 46 × 11 mm oil seals include early Custom applications. The separate dust seals shown here list 1981–1982.
Parts checkpoint: Identify both seals separately; later dust-seal coverage does not prove oil-seal size.
Controls and rear brake
Preserve Custom fitment
The rear shoe listing includes CX500C 1979–1982. The featured brake lever has a narrower 1981–1982 C-model application.
Parts checkpoint: Check the actual drum, lever pivot and master cylinder on a modified bike.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingCX500C frame, engine and model checklist
Record the motorcycle’s markings and original model information before choosing parts, especially after an engine or chassis conversion.
- Confirm the CX500C designation, model year and market from the machine and its paperwork.
- Record the engine number separately, especially if an earlier owner changed the engine.
- Identify carburetor markings before choosing a rebuild kit. A kit listed for later Customs is not proof of early-year compatibility.
- Record fork dimensions and brake/control markings where parts have been swapped. The Custom name also describes modified motorcycles generally, so keep the factory CX500C code in the search.
