About the Honda GL1100I Interstate
Choose the repair below, then match the exact GL1100I year and the assembly fitted to the motorcycle. The engine family spans all four years, but several brake parts split between 1980–1981, 1982 and 1983.
Honda launched the 1,085 cc GL1100 for 1980 with a liquid-cooled OHC horizontally opposed four, torque-focused tuning, a longer wheelbase and shaft final drive. The GL1100I Interstate became the first Gold Wing supplied with its fairing, saddlebags and trunk as standard equipment.
Interstate identity and year-specific service parts matter
Honda introduced the more highly equipped GL1100A Aspencade in 1982, so Interstate and Aspencade trim, control and touring-equipment parts should not be treated as interchangeable merely because selected engine service parts overlap. Timing-belt, carburetor, water-pump and fork-seal products below list GL1100I 1980–1983. The front master-cylinder applications split cleanly: 08-0210 for 1980–1981, 08-0209 for 1982 and 08-0201 for 1983.
Identify the model and plan the repairModel and application differences
Original model identity
Interstate versus Standard
Honda supplied the Interstate with a fairing, saddlebags and trunk as standard equipment. A Standard fitted later with touring accessories remains a GL1100 for engine and chassis applications.
Parts checkpoint: Use the frame identity for the motorcycle and match accessory hardware to what is actually installed.
1982–1983 luxury model
Interstate versus Aspencade
The Interstate began in 1980. Honda added the GL1100 Aspencade in 1982 with LCD instrumentation, audio equipment and additional passenger-comfort features.
Parts checkpoint: Shared engine parts do not establish fairing, instrument, control or luggage interchange.
1980–1983 brake changes
Three front-master-cylinder applications
The selected front master-cylinder kits divide into 1980–1981, 1982 and 1983 applications rather than one four-year fitment.
Parts checkpoint: Choose 08-0210, 08-0209 or 08-0201 by exact year and installed cylinder.
Frame, engine and fitted componentsHonda GL1100I Interstate identification checklist
Start with the original motorcycle identity, then verify the exact component being serviced. Previous owners may have added touring equipment or exchanged brake, carburetor and suspension assemblies.
| System | Year or application | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Original model | GL1100I, 1980–1983 | Verify the complete frame/VIN label, model year and documentation. |
| Touring equipment | Factory fairing, saddlebags and trunk | Accessories added to a Standard do not change its original model identity. Match accessory hardware to what is fitted. |
| Front master cylinder | 08-0210: 1980–81; 08-0209: 1982; 08-0201: 1983 | Verify bore, piston and cup-seal style, reservoir and the installed assembly. |
| Front brake pads | 29-3547: 1980–81; 29-3532 or 29-3603: 1982–83 | Confirm front position, backing-plate shape, retaining hardware and package quantity. |
| Front fork | 27-1029 lists 39 × 52 × 11 mm seals | Verify the fitted tubes and old seal markings, especially if the fork assembly may have been changed. |
| Carburetors | 48-1405 lists 1980–83 | Confirm the carburetor model, kit contents, jets and quantity required for the planned work. |
