About the 1986 Honda GL1200SEI SE-i
Choose the repair first, then verify the 1986 GL1200SEI application, fitted assembly and product details. Shared GL1200 dimensions do not establish interchangeability with the carbureted Aspencade or Interstate.
Honda enlarged the GL1100’s horizontally opposed four from 1,085 cc to 1,182 cc for the GL1200 and redesigned the chassis for greater touring comfort. Honda’s development history says the 1985 Limited Edition introduced electronic fuel injection, cruise control, a drive computer and automatic rear-suspension leveling. After the Limited sold out, Honda offered the following model-year special edition under the SE-i name.
Keep SE-i systems separate from carbureted GL1200 parts
The 1986 SE-i’s fuel, control and suspension systems distinguish it from the carbureted GL1200A Aspencade and GL1200I Interstate. Many basic service parts are shared only where the product expressly lists GL1200SEI 1986. Carburetor kits are not SE-i fuel-system parts, and shared fuel injection with the 1985 Limited does not establish sensor, wiring or control-unit interchange.
Identify the model and plan the repairModel and application differences
1986 touring models
SE-i versus Aspencade and Interstate
The SE-i uses electronic fuel injection and specialized control equipment. The regular 1986 Aspencade and Interstate are carbureted, so their carburetor parts do not service the SE-i fuel system.
Parts checkpoint: Require an explicit GL1200SEI application for injection, electrical and specialized suspension parts.
1985 versus 1986 injected models
Limited versus SE-i
The 1985 Limited and 1986 SE-i are related injected Gold Wings, but that does not prove component interchange. Clutch set 39-1473 lists the 1985 Limited; later set 39-1472 lists the 1986 SE-i.
Parts checkpoint: Share a part only when its individual application lists both models.

Know the catalog limit
This collection has useful engine, clutch, fork, brake and hydraulic service parts, but it is not a complete catalog for SE-i injection electronics, cruise control, the drive computer or automatic rear leveling.
Parts checkpoint: Diagnose these systems with Honda’s SE-i service information and exact component markings.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingGL1200SEI model and identification checklist
Use the motorcycle’s complete identity and the markings on the fitted assembly. Paint, badges or touring equipment alone do not confirm an SE-i application.
| System | Confirmed detail | Check before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Model identity | 1986 GL1200SEI / SE-i | Verify the complete frame/VIN label, model year and records rather than relying on paint or trim. |
| Fuel and controls | Electronic fuel injection | Record controller, sensor and connector markings. Do not substitute a GL1200 carburetor kit. |
| Front fork | 27-1031 lists 41 × 54 × 11 mm seals | Verify the fitted tubes and old seal markings, especially if the fork assembly may have been changed. |
| Clutch | 39-1472 friction set; 39-1405B steel plate | Keep the original stack order and inspect both friction and steel plates. The steel plate is sold individually. |
| Brakes | Position-specific inspection required | Record front or rear position, piston diameter, seal profile and installed hardware. |
| Cooling system | Water pump 19200-MG9-680 | Confirm the housing, drive, coolant-passage and seal arrangement. |
