About the Honda XR100

From the early twin-shock XR100 to the single-shock XR100R.

Honda Motorcycle Logo

Honda introduced the XR100 in 1981 as a compact four-stroke trail bike with an air-cooled single, manual clutch and five-speed gearbox. The XR100R followed with a single rear shock in 1985. Engine service parts can span both models, while the chassis change makes rear brake and suspension identification especially important.

Plan a trail-bike engine or chassis repair

Start with the component that needs work: the carburetor for a fuel-system rebuild, the leaking engine joint for gaskets, or the rear hub for brake shoes. A bike assembled with a replacement engine or front end may need parts identified from that donor component.

Model and application differencesXR100 versus XR100R: which parts differ?

1981–1984 XR100

The early twin-shock chassis has its own rear brake shoe application. Match the hub and shoe profile before transferring parts information from an XR100R.

1985-on XR100R

The R model uses a single rear shock. Carburetor and gasket listings still have their own year limits; the chassis change does not make all later engine parts interchangeable.

Swapped engines and front ends

Order engine parts from the engine and carburetor actually fitted. For suspension and brakes, compare fork dimensions and hub or caliper details.

Frame and component identificationHonda XR100 and XR100R identification

  • Record the complete frame number, engine number and model year from the bike and its paperwork.
  • Check for the early twin-shock or later single-shock rear suspension.
  • Photograph the carburetor markings and both sides of the old gasket or brake shoe.
  • Measure replacement forks and brake components if the bike has been modified.

Honda XR100 parts questions

How do I tell an XR100 from an XR100R?
The early XR100 has twin rear shocks; the XR100R introduced a single rear shock in 1985. Read the frame and engine identification as well, especially if the bike has replacement plastics or an engine swap.
Which parts should I order for an XR100 with a replacement engine?
Identify engine gaskets, clutch parts and carburetor service parts from the engine and carburetor fitted. Identify rear brake shoes from the rear hub. The frame year alone cannot resolve a mixed-component bike.
Do the XR100R gasket sets cover 1992?
The two gasket sets cover XR100R 1985–1991 and 1993–2003. A 1992 fit has not been confirmed. Send the engine number and gasket photos to the parts team before choosing a set.
Is the XR100 steel clutch plate a complete clutch kit?
No. The steel plate is sold individually; order the quantity required. Friction plates and springs are separate components and should be assessed with the rest of the clutch.
