XR400 maintenance planning for the engine, airbox and fork
Compare the model, the repair location and the part’s own application before ordering.
An XR400 parts search should lead back to the full XR400R identity before an order is placed. The air filter, oil filter and fork seals below share a listed XR400R 1996–2004 range, but they fit three different assemblies. A replacement airbox, engine or fork still needs to be checked independently.
Use the repair list to distinguish consumable replacement from a larger service job. Compare the air filter’s sealing edge and support, the oil filter and cover arrangement, and the fork seal’s complete dimensions. A filter order does not establish that cover seals or other service materials are supplied, and a seal set does not replace damaged fork tubes.

Identify before orderingHonda XR400 identification checklist
- Confirm the XR400R model and year, then identify any changed engine, airbox or fork.
- For air-filter selection, compare the sealing perimeter and support arrangement; capacity or model-family similarity is insufficient.
- For oil and fork service, list the seals and other components the job requires. Confirm package contents and use the correct service procedure.
