About the Kawasaki EX500
Choose EX500 repair parts by model, year and the assembly you are servicing.
This guide covers the earlier carbureted EX500A and EX500D models, also sold under Ninja 500, Ninja 500R and GPZ500S names in different markets. The current 451cc, fuel-injected Ninja 500 is a different generation: these earlier A- and D-model applications do not establish fit for it. Use the complete model code, year and fitted assembly when choosing a part.
What changes between EX500A and EX500D parts?
Some engine service parts cross the model boundary; chassis parts need a closer comparison. Our carburetor rebuild kit has both A- and D-model applications, but their fork oil seals have different dimensions. The table below shows why the year range belongs to the individual part, rather than to the EX500 name as a whole.
| Part | EX500A | EX500D |
|---|---|---|
| Carburetor rebuild kit | 1987–1993 | 1994–2005 |
| Engine gasket set | 1987–1993 | 1994–1996 |
| Fork oil seals | 1987–1993 · 36 × 48 × 11 mm | 1994–2007 · 37 × 50 × 11 mm |
These ranges apply to the specific products linked under repair parts below.

EX500A
Fork seals and rear drum parts
The A-model fork oil seals measure 36 × 48 × 11 mm. Rear brake shoes are a separate A-model repair option for the drum assembly.
Parts checkpoint: Use the A-model collection for these chassis parts.
EX500D
A different fork oil seal
The D-model seal is 37 × 50 × 11 mm. Its 1994–2007 application is wider than the 1994–1996 application of the engine gasket set.
Parts checkpoint: Keep each part’s year range with your order.

Market names and component changes
A familiar badge can hide a different suffix or replacement assembly. Carburetor markings and removed seal dimensions help resolve an uncertain repair.
Parts checkpoint: Have the complete model and year ready when asking for help.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingKawasaki EX500 identification checks
- Model and year
- Keep the EX500 suffix and model year together. A registration date alone may not identify the original model year.
- Fitted components
- Photograph carburetor markings, fork seals and the brake assembly if the motorcycle has been modified.
- Repair scope
- List the seals, gaskets and wear parts needed for the job; one rebuild kit need not cover every component.
