About the Kawasaki KDX80
The early and later clutch applications are the key starting point for KDX80 repairs.
Keeping a KDX80 in use starts with the controls, fuel supply and chassis as well as the engine. A well-used trail motorcycle may have replacement levers or other components from earlier repairs. This collection includes different clutch listings for 1980–1981 and 1982–1988, making model-year identification especially useful before ordering a clutch stack.
Separate clutch wear from adjustment problems
Check cable operation and the release mechanism before deciding that slipping or drag requires new plates. If the clutch is opened, inspect the friction and steel plates, basket and springs together. For a return to trail use, also inspect fork-tube condition, the front drum assembly and the fuel tap rather than treating one new part as a complete service.
Know your KDX80 before choosing partsKDX80 repair checkpoints
Use the checkpoints below to prepare the parts list for your repair.
1980–1981
Use the early clutch listings
Separate early friction- and steel-plate listings cover 1980–1981. Do not select the later plates simply because the product title also mentions KDX80.
1982–1988
Check the full clutch stack
The featured later friction and steel plates list 1982–1988. Confirm plate count, thickness and order against the correct service information.
Front brake and fuel tap
Coverage starts later
The selected front shoes and petcock kit list 1984–1988, while the fork oil seals list 1980–1988. Check these items separately when preparing an early-model order.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingKDX80 identification checklist
Record the motorcycle’s identification and check for replacement assemblies before choosing service parts.
- Record the model year and frame identification, and note any replacement engine or controls.
- For clutch work, compare the fitted friction and steel plates, plate count and dimensions with the correct application.
- Check fork-seal dimensions, front-brake shoe shape and fuel-tap layout on the actual motorcycle.
