About the Kawasaki KLX250

Early KLX250A and later KLX250D parts belong to different repair paths.

The original KLX250 was already being road-tested in 1979 as Kawasaki’s four-stroke dirt bike. Kawasaki later used KLX250R for the D series, including the 1994 KLX250-D2. Those names span different machines, so “KLX250” by itself is only a starting point for a repair order.

Kawasaki KLX250 parts questions

Are early KLX250A and later KLX250D parts interchangeable?
A shared KLX250 name is not proof of interchangeability. The featured A applications list 1979–80, while many D clutch, brake and cooling parts list 1994–96. Confirm the full model code and the installed engine or chassis assembly on each product.
Is KLX250R another name for the KLX250D?
Kawasaki’s 1994 catalogue identifies KLX250-D2 as KLX250R. Use the complete frame designation and model year because the KLX250R sales name alone is not a complete application for every year or market.
Why do KLX250D fork seals and bushings list different years?
They are separate component applications. Fork oil-seal set 27-1039 lists KLX250D 1995–96; DU bushing set 27-1099 lists D 1993–96. The wider bushing range does not establish oil-seal fitment for 1993–94.
How do I identify parts for a KLX250 with a replacement front end?
Use the frame model and year for the motorcycle’s identity, then identify the actual forks, steering stem and brakes. Supply original-part markings, dimensions and photographs when asking for help. A chassis swap can change those parts while the frame still carries the same KLX250 code.
