About the Kawasaki KZ1100
A, B, D, L and R models: identify the motorcycle, then build the repair order.
Kawasaki used the KZ1100 name across distinct early-1980s road-bike families. The A Shaft, B GPz, D Spectre, L LTD Shaft and R each deserve their own parts check. A shared engine-family name does not settle fuel-system, chassis or electrical fitment.
Carburetors, injection and engine-gasket coverage
A KZ1100A carburetor kit is not a rebuild kit for an original fuel-injected KZ1100B. Likewise, the engine gasket set listed for several 1981–83 KZ1100 applications does not list the 1984 KZ1100R. Narrow the collection before planning the repair.

Use these model and component differences to narrow your repair order. The years shown belong to the named parts; check the installed assembly as well.
1981–83 listed applications
KZ1100A Shaft
The A collection includes carburetor kits and year-specific intake holders. Holder set 48-1463 lists 1981–82 only.

KZ1100B GPz
Original fuel injection is the critical distinction. Match injection hardware and electrical connectors to the exact B model.

KZ1100D Spectre
Use the Spectre’s full D code. Holder set 48-1463 lists D 1982; do not extend that application to 1983.

KZ1100L LTD Shaft
The L is its own application. Confirm L-specific coverage even when a part also lists the A or D.

KZ1100R
Kawasaki’s R1 brochure specifies four Mikuni carburetors. Use R-specific listings rather than extending earlier KZ1100 kit coverage.

Use the frame model, engine identification and the correct market’s catalogue together.
- Read the complete KZ1100 model designation from the frame identification label; tank badges can be replaced.
- Compare the frame and engine records with the correct market’s Kawasaki parts catalogue. Registration year alone may differ from model year.
- Identify the installed intake system and final drive before borrowing a procedure or part from another KZ1100.
- Photograph the original component, markings, connector and mounting points before asking for a fitment check.
