About the Suzuki GT250
Clutch, sealing and points-ignition service for the GT250 two-stroke twin.
Suzuki’s archive describes the GT250 as an air-cooled two-cylinder, two-stroke member of the GT range with Cylinder Crank Injection lubrication. For restoration, preserving the correct fuel and lubrication arrangements matters alongside ignition and chassis condition. The parts below have individual applications, mostly in the 1973–1977 period, rather than one blanket coverage claim for every GT250. Suzuki GT250 history.
Separate ignition checks from carburetor work
A rough-running older motorcycle needs diagnosis before parts are selected. Check the fitted ignition system as well as fuel supply and carburetor condition; a points condenser has no role in an electronic-ignition conversion. For clutch repairs, inspect friction plates, steel plates and the release system together, while retaining the correct stack specification.
Know your GT250 before choosing partsGT250 repair checkpoints
Use the checkpoints below to prepare the parts list for your repair.
Ignition service
Check for conversions first
The selected condenser lists GT250 1973–1976. Confirm that the motorcycle still uses the matching points system and compare the connections before ordering.
Clutch restoration
Friction and steel are separate
The selected friction and steel plates list GT250 1973–1977. Check quantity, thickness and stack arrangement; neither listing should be assumed to contain the complete clutch.
Carburetor and forks
Match the component shape
Bowl gaskets must match the carburetor groove, and fork seals must match the tube and housing. A shared model application still requires those checks after decades of repairs.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingGT250 identification checklist
Record the motorcycle’s identification and check for replacement assemblies before choosing service parts.
- Record the full model and year from the motorcycle and its documentation, including frame and engine markings.
- Check whether points ignition or an electronic conversion is installed; photograph the existing condenser and connections if replacing it.
- Compare carburetor bowl-gasket shape, fork-seal dimensions and clutch-plate quantity with the parts being serviced.
