About the Yamaha FZR1000
Engine generation and fitted fork matter on an FZR1000 restoration.
Yamaha introduced the FZR1000 in 1987 with a liquid-cooled inline-four, five valves per cylinder and an aluminum Deltabox frame. The 1989 redesign changed the engine and chassis and introduced EXUP exhaust control. For restoration work, keep the engine generation, carburetor identification and fitted front end with the motorcycle’s year and market.
Treat fork oil seals and dust seals as separate purchases
Oil seals retain fork oil; dust seals help exclude dirt and water from the sliding assembly. The oil-seal product linked here lists 1987–1988 and 1991–1993, with no 1989–1990 application. The dust-seal product lists 1989–1990. A year on one component does not identify the other, and a replacement fork needs its own seal comparison.

The year ranges below belong to the individual products. Keep your selected year in the comparison when opening a repair link.
1987–1988 engine work
Start with the early kit and gasket examples
Compare the carburetor and engine being serviced with the applications in the repair cards.
1989 EXUP redesign
Keep the engine generation with the year
The engine and chassis changes mean the early carburetor and gasket examples cannot be extended to later models.
Fork service
Preserve the separate year groups
The oil seals cover 1987–1988 and 1991–1993; the dust seals cover 1989–1990. Match the fitted fork when planning both purchases.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingFZR1000 identification checklist
Record the complete FZR1000 designation, model year, market and engine number. Add carburetor markings for fuel-system repairs. For fork and brake work, compare the fitted assembly, component dimensions and profile rather than the fairing or wheel alone.
- Keep the complete model designation and year with your parts list.
- Record frame and engine markings separately. A replacement engine needs its own parts comparison.
- Compare the component fitted to the motorcycle, the product application and the package contents.
