About the Yamaha SR500
Carburetor, gasket, clutch and chassis parts for Yamaha’s classic road-going single.
Introduced in 1978, the SR500 brought Yamaha’s XT500 design background to a road motorcycle. Its 499 cc air-cooled single used an overhead camshaft and two valves. For parts selection, the SR500 model application is the useful reference, particularly when a project has acquired a replacement carburetor, brake or front end.
Plan the carburetor, clutch and gasket work together
The carburetor and front master-cylinder kits below cover 1978–81, as do the individual clutch-plate examples. The Athena gasket set and fork seals have their own year ranges. A short repair list helps separate the kit contents, individually sold pieces and seals needed for each job.

Read the carburetor and brake markings
Identify the fitted carburetor and front master cylinder before selecting their repair kits. A replacement assembly needs parts matched to its own design, even when the motorcycle’s model year falls within the listing.
Compare seals and clutch components
For forks, compare the complete seal dimensions and installed fork. For clutch work, record plate order and distinguish the steel plates from the other plates before deciding what to replace.
