About the Yamaha WR400F
An early Yamaha four-stroke enduro deserves parts matched to its exact year and equipment.
Yamaha introduced the WR400F for the 1998 European model range as an enduro development of the YZ400F. Its factory announcement describes a wide-ratio transmission and changes to fuel capacity, bodywork and electrical equipment. The WR400F name therefore matters when comparing parts with a YZ or a later WR model.
For a WR400F fork service, inspect the oil seals, retaining rings and bushings before ordering. The seals and rings below list 1998–2000, while the bushing set starts in 1999. A front brake-pad set supports another common front-end repair. For carburetor work, the mid-body kit listed for 2000 requires a check of the fitted carburetor and the pieces included.
Compare the actual applicationWR400F part and year differences
Use the table to build a repair order for one year. A 1998 seal application does not extend the selected bushing listing to 1998, and the 2000 mid-body kit should not be treated as a kit for every WR400F carburetor.
| Part | Listed model and years |
|---|---|
| Fork oil seals | WR400F 1998–2000 |
| Fork-seal retaining ring | WR400F 1998–2000 |
| Fork DU bushing set | WR400F 1999–2000 |
| Carburetor mid-body kit with screws | WR400F 2000 |
| Front brake-pad set | WR400F 1998–2000 |
Identify the fitted equipmentWR400F fork, brake and carburetor checks
- Confirm WR400F and the model year from the frame identification and matching Yamaha documentation.
- Identify the installed forks, then compare oil-seal profiles, retaining-ring grooves and bushing dimensions separately.
- For carburetor work, read its identification and inspect the mid-body layout; confirm the kit contents and screw sizes.
- For front brake pads, compare the fitted caliper, pad outline and retaining hardware.
