About the Yamaha YFM400
Starter, filter and carburetor choices organized by their own YFM400 applications.
Yamaha’s 400-class ATV history includes different model codes and market names. The early Kodiak 400 4x4 appears in Yamaha’s archive as YFM400FW. Keep that FW designation distinct from the unsuffixed YFM400 applications featured on this page.
Match the starter, filter or carburetor component
The starter motor lists 1993–1998 YFM400 and reference 1UY-81890-00; the oil filter lists 1993–1995 and reference 1UY-13440-02. The air-cut valve is a later 2003–2004 selection. Use those references alongside the motor’s mounting and drive, the filter housing or the fitted carburetor to choose the relevant part.

Frame, engine and component markingsYamaha YFM400 identification
Use the complete frame/model identification and the correct market documentation. Identify a replacement engine, carburetor or front end separately from the frame.
- Record the complete Yamaha model code and year, including any FW suffix.
- Check the starter mounting pattern and drive against the original motor.
- Match the filter reference and the air-cut valve to their respective assemblies.
A shared model prefix or similar appearance does not establish the model year or parts fitment.
