About the Honda CR500
Identify the engine, brakes and forks before choosing parts for an early or later CR500.
Honda’s big-bore CR changed substantially between the 1984 and 1985 models. The 1985 CR500R introduced liquid cooling in place of the earlier air-cooled arrangement, alongside carburetor and suspension changes. For a restoration, the fitted engine and chassis equipment matter as much as the CR500 name on the bike.
Find the CR500R parts for your repair
Many selection product pages use the complete CR500R designation. The Honda CR500R parts collection focuses on engine gasket, clutch, rear-brake and later fork-seal jobs. This family guide adds the early cooling distinction, two front-pad ranges and the earlier fork-seal sizes to help identify the right starting point.
Use the engine year for gasket selection, then identify the forks and brake assemblies separately if they have been replaced. The linked gasket set starts at 1989; it does not cover every liquid-cooled CR500R. For another Honda motocross model, browse the Honda CR parts range.

Cooling equipment separates the early engines
The 1985 model introduced liquid cooling. Identify the engine fitted to the motorcycle rather than choosing gaskets from appearance, capacity or a broad CR500 label.

Year ranges belong to the component
The fork seals use different dimensions for 1984–1988 and 1989–1991. Front- and rear-pad product pages also cover different ranges and positions.
Prepare for the repairIdentify your CR500 components
- Confirm the complete CR500R designation where shown and the model year. Compare the frame identification with the motorcycle’s documentation.
- Record engine markings and identify cooling equipment. A changed engine needs its own gasket application.
- Check fork diameter and old seal dimensions, then identify front and rear brake assemblies separately.
