About the Honda CT70H
These repair paths use current CT70H product applications only. Parts listed for both 1971 and 1972 are separated from the 1972-only cap seal; do not extend a missing year by assumption.
Honda’s CT70/CT70H shop manual separates the H from the early standard CT70 drivetrain. The CT70H specification uses a wet, multi-plate manual clutch, a four-speed constant-mesh transmission and an N-1-2-3-4 shift pattern. The comparable CT70 specification uses a wet, multi-plate automatic centrifugal clutch and three speeds.
This collection’s current verified product applications cover CT70H 1971–72. That catalog boundary is not permission to treat every CT70 or CT70K part as interchangeable: the clutch and transmission arrangement is a fundamental model difference, while individual ignition, carburetor, exhaust and chassis parts retain their own year listings.

CT70H drivetrain
Four speeds and a hand clutch
Honda specifies a wet, multi-plate manual clutch, four-speed constant-mesh transmission and N-1-2-3-4 shift pattern for the CT70H.
Parts checkpoint: Do not use a standard CT70 or CT70K clutch listing unless the product explicitly confirms the H and matches the installed engine.
Early CT70/CT70K drivetrain
Three speeds and an automatic centrifugal clutch
Honda’s comparable standard CT70 specification uses a three-speed transmission and automatic centrifugal clutch. Similar bodywork does not make the drivetrains interchangeable.
Parts checkpoint: Keep the complete H model identity visible throughout the order.
CT70H and CT70HK1 identity
Two factory serial series
Honda lists CT70H-100001 onward and CT70HK1-2000001 onward as separate initial serial series.
Parts checkpoint: Use the complete frame stamp and the individual product’s year/application; never convert a serial start into an unsupported year claim.
Frame, engine and fitted componentsHonda CT70H identification checklist
Start with the complete frame stamping, then confirm the engine and controls. Honda’s shop manual lists the initial CT70H serial series as CT70H-100001 onward and the later CT70HK1 series as CT70HK1-2000001 onward. Preserve every letter and digit; do not identify a restored bike from decals or a clutch lever alone.
- Frame: Record the full CT70H or CT70HK1 stamping and compare it with the registration and correct market documentation.
- Engine and drivetrain: Confirm a four-speed engine with a hand-operated, wet multi-plate clutch. An engine or control conversion can make the visible equipment disagree with the frame.
- Ignition: Confirm that points ignition remains fitted and match the existing contact-point reference, wire and mounting; this collection contains two different CT70H point listings.
- Carburetor and cap: Match the float to the carburetor body. Match the cap seal to the installed cap and exact year rather than assuming all early Trail 70 caps are identical.
