About the Honda XL80S
Engine, fuel, steering and rear-brake service for the small XL.
A practical XL80S restoration list starts with the engine, carburetor and chassis parts actually needing work. The selected 1980–1985 applications below cover engine gaskets, a float needle, steering-head bearings and rear brake shoes. Honda’s dedicated XL80S documentation remains the reference for component identification and assembly details.
Choose parts after identifying the fault
For a fuel-level problem, inspect the float needle, seat and float movement together. For notchy steering, inspect the stem bearings and races. For a rear brake repair, match the shoes to the drum and hardware. Engine gasket selection follows the joints being opened, rather than the number of parts in a larger kit.

Frame, engine and component checksIdentify your XL80S before ordering
Record the frame and engine markings, then compare the component being repaired. Include replacement-engine or chassis details if the motorcycle has been modified.
- Record the complete XL80S model and year, plus the engine number if the engine history is uncertain.
- Compare the carburetor identification and old float needle before ordering fuel parts.
- Match rear brake shoes to the rear hub, shoe width, cam ends and spring arrangement.
- Inspect the steering stem and bearing races when assessing notchy or loose steering.
