About the Yamaha SR400
Service the SR400’s filters, clutch and controls by the fitted assembly.
Yamaha introduced the SR400 in 1978, and its air-cooled single-cylinder, kick-start character remained central to the model. That long history makes the individual product application especially useful: an early shift lever and a later clutch plate do not cover the same motorcycles.
Oil service, airbox sealing and early shift controls
For routine service, compare the oil-filter sealing arrangement and the air-filter element’s fit against the airbox. Changed intake systems need their own filter specification. The early folding shift lever also needs the correct shaft splines, offset and clearance; its 1978–1984 application is separate from the 2001–2003 clutch plate.
