About the Yamaha XS750

Parts for Yamaha’s 747cc triple, from early standard models to the XS750 Special.

The XS750’s three-cylinder DOHC engine and shaft final drive give it a different service layout from Yamaha’s XS twins and four-cylinder models. The XS750-2D manual describes three carburetors, a five-speed gearbox and a wet multi-plate clutch. Those distinctions matter when planning a carb rebuild, clutch repair or engine reseal.

Early D, revised E or Special: choose the right branch

The 1978 XS750E introduced carburetor and ignition revisions to the standard triple. The Special added its own chassis details; the 1979 XS750SF had higher handlebars, a stepped seat and leading-axle forks. Selected engine parts overlap, but fork seals, carburetor gaskets and control cables need their own applications.

Complete model and market. Record the full designation in the original Yamaha documentation and the frame marking. Registration year alone may not identify the model year, particularly on an imported bike.
Engine and carburetor identity. Photograph the engine number and carburetor body markings. Distinguish an original D/2D assembly from later E or Special components before selecting rebuild parts.
Front end and controls. Compare the installed fork, master cylinder and cable routing. A Special-style tank or handlebar conversion does not change which brake seals or cable ends the fitted assemblies require.

Carburetor rebuilds and float-bowl repairs

XS750E/S carburetor rebuild kit lists 1978–79 applications; the alternative E/S carb kit lists 1978. For an early D, use the 1977 XS750D bowl gasket application. Identify the carburetor bank and confirm the package coverage before ordering.

Engine gaskets and oil-filter seals

Use the XS750 engine gasket set for the engine joints covered by its contents. For oil-filter housing service, the separate oil-filter O-ring set addresses that sealing job. An O-ring set is not an oil filter.

Front master cylinders and brake calipers

The front master-cylinder repair kit has D and S applications. The D caliper kit and Special caliper kit have different application lists. Identify the assembly and brake position before comparing seals.

Clutch plates and control cables

The XS750 clutch plate is sold individually; order the quantity required. For D-model cable work, use the XS750D clutch cable application and compare its end fittings and routing. Shared engine capacity does not establish cable fit.

Special fork oil seals

The XS750S fork oil seal set contains two seals with listed dimensions 36 × 48 × 11. Match the installed fork and inspect the tubes and dust seals as separate items.

Wheel seals by model and year

The XS750 wheel seal kit lists D 1977, E 1978, S 1978–79 and F 1979. Confirm the wheel position, hub and spacer dimensions. Do not assume a seal kit includes wheel bearings.

How do I choose between XS750D, XS750E and XS750S parts?

Use the complete model and year in the Yamaha documentation, then match the engine and fitted components. The D/2D is the early standard group, the 1978 E has revised carburetion and ignition, and S identifies Special applications in this catalog. The model guides explain the service differences.

Do early XS750D and later E/S carburetors use the same rebuild parts?

The featured E/S carburetor kits do not list XS750D. The early D bowl gasket and float needle-and-seat assembly have a specific 1977 application. Compare the carburetor body markings and bowl pattern, especially if a previous owner replaced the bank.

Does the Yamaha XS750 have chain drive or shaft drive?

The XS750 uses shaft final drive to the rear wheel. It also has an internal primary chain in the engine’s drive system, separate from the cam chain. Identify the assembly being repaired before buying a chain.

Can I use XS750E parts on an XS750S Special?

Some individual products list both models, including the featured carburetor rebuild kits and engine gasket set. That overlap does not establish fork, brake, intake-holder or cable interchange. Use the application on each part rather than a general E-to-S substitution.
