About the Honda TRX250R
Carburetor and front-brake service for the four-wheel, two-stroke FourTrax 250R.
Honda introduced the FourTrax 250R for 1986 with a liquid-cooled 246 cc two-stroke engine. Its four-wheel TRX250R designation separates it from the three-wheel ATC250R and the four-stroke TRX250X. Use the complete model name when rebuilding an original machine or sorting parts for a modified sport ATV.
Compare the float and float needle as separate parts
For the original carburetor application, the float below covers 1986–1989 and the float needle covers 1986–1988. That difference matters on a 1989 repair: the float’s coverage does not identify a suitable needle. With an aftermarket carburetor, start from its maker and body markings, then compare the float hinge, needle profile and supplied pieces.
Know your TRX250R before choosing partsFourTrax 250R applications and common mix-ups
TRX250R, 1986–1989
FourTrax two-stroke application
Identify the four-wheel TRX250R before selecting parts. An ATC250R listing confirms TRX fitment only when it also names your TRX250R model year.
1986–1988 versus 1989
Float-needle coverage changes
The float linked below covers all four years. The linked needle ends at 1988, so a 1989 carburetor needs a separately confirmed needle or valve application.
TRX250X and TRX250EX
Separate four-stroke models
The X and EX names belong to different engine and chassis applications. Follow their own collection pages and product fitment instead of choosing by 250 cc class alone.
Identify your vehicle before orderingTRX250R frame, carburetor and brake checklist
- Record the frame identification and model year, along with separate engine markings.
- Photograph the carburetor body and identification marks. Note any aftermarket carburetor or intake conversion.
- For float parts, compare the float shape, hinge arrangement and needle tip with the product listing.
- For front brakes, identify the caliper and compare backing-plate shape and retaining hardware. Check the quantity needed for the complete job.
