About the Honda XL600
XL600R trail single or XL600V Transalp: choose the right starting point for your repair.
The Honda XL600R combines an air-cooled RFVC single-cylinder engine with two carburetors. The XL600V Transalp uses a liquid-cooled V-twin for a different approach to road-and-trail riding. Their similar names conceal major engine, carburetor and chassis differences.
Choose the model before the repair kit
A left-carburetor kit for the 1983–1987 XL600R serves a different application from the Transalp carb kits for 1989–1990. Some rear brake shoes list both models, but an engine gasket set does not become interchangeable because a brake part is shared. Start with the R or V collection and keep the complete model name on your parts list.

XL600LM and XL600RM
Retain the LM or RM suffix when identifying a bike. Use a product that explicitly names that version; an XL600R or XL600V entry alone is insufficient.
Frame, engine and fitted equipmentXL600 identification checklist
- Confirm the full R, V, LM or RM model designation and original sales market.
- Record the frame/VIN and engine markings independently; use the correct Honda model-year documentation to interpret them.
- For chassis repairs, identify the actual fork, wheel hub or brake assembly before comparing dimensions.
