About the Yamaha XJ700
Keep the suffix when comparing XJ700 repair parts.
Yamaha’s 1985 model literature includes the XJ700X Maxim. This collection brings together several XJ700 designations, so the suffix is an important part of the fitment check. The replacement float covers XJ700 and XJ700C in 1985–1986; the front master-cylinder kit has an XJ700S entry, while the selected clutch plate lists XJ700X for 1986 only.
Separate a bowl-joint leak from a fuel-level problem
A float-bowl gasket seals the joint between the bowl and carburetor body. The float and needle-and-seat arrangement control fuel level. Identify where fuel is escaping before choosing parts: renewing a bowl gasket does not correct a float valve that fails to close. Compare the fitted carburetor markings, float pivot and gasket outline.
