About the Kawasaki KL250
Engine, carburetor and chassis repairs for the KL250 family.
Kawasaki’s 1978 KL250 paired a four-stroke single-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft, kick starting and road equipment for dual-purpose riding. Restoring one today means looking beyond its appearance: the engine, carburetor and chassis may have different service needs, and replacement assemblies need their own identification.
Find your KL250 family before choosing a repair
KL250A and KL250C owners have dedicated model collections below. For the liquid-cooled KLR250 identified by the KL250D code, use the separate D-model collection. Other KL250 designations must match the full application on the chosen part. A useful comparison: the linked cam chain covers A 1978–1982 and C 1983–1984, while the engine gasket set is limited to A 1978–1981.

Identify your motorcycle before orderingKL250 identification checklist
Use frame and engine markings to establish what is fitted, then record the model year and original market. For carburetor work, photograph the body markings and bowl. For steering or brake work, note the fork, stem and wheel if they differ from the original equipment.
- Keep the complete model designation and year with your parts list.
- Record frame and engine markings separately. A replacement engine needs its own parts comparison.
- Compare the component fitted to the motorcycle, the product application and the package contents.
