About the Yamaha XJ900
Choose the XJ900R or XJ900S branch before building a repair order.
The XJ900 name brings early XJ900R service parts and later XJ900S Diversion applications into the same family search. Yamaha identifies the XJ900S as the Diversion 900 in its owner documentation. Those names are useful navigation points for selecting the right carburetor, fork and engine-service parts.
Choose the model branch, then the repair
The carburetor kit below is recorded for XJ900 1983–1984, while the fork oil seals specifically name XJ900R 1983. Later XJ900S work includes dust seals for 1998–2002 and a valve-shim kit for 1995–2002. The R and S repair guides keep those component groups separate.

Early XJ900 and XJ900R
The catalog uses both a shortened XJ900 name and the explicit XJ900R designation. Keep the exact application shown on the part; confirm a shortened entry against your motorcycle before ordering.
XJ900S Diversion
The later S-model has its own service applications. Dust seals and valve-shim listings have different year ranges, and neither range can be used to date the entire motorcycle family.
Identify your motorcycle before orderingXJ900 identification checklist
Use the motorcycle’s identification and the fitted component together. A registration year or family name can leave important application details unresolved.
- Read the full model designation from the identification label and matching documentation.
- Record the engine identification separately when an engine swap is possible.
- Check the fitted fork, carburetor and brake assembly rather than relying on bodywork or decals.
