About the Honda GL1000 Gold Wing

The GL1000 brought a liquid-cooled flat-four engine and shaft drive to Honda’s range when US sales began in 1975. Its fuel tank sits beneath the seat; the familiar tank-shaped housing above the engine contains electrical equipment and storage. The 1975–1979 range also includes the 1976 Limited, with its own GL1000LTD designation.

Carburetors, timing belts and the correct brake application

For a bike returning to use after storage, establish its service history before building a parts order. Carburetor seals, timing belts and engine gaskets belong to different repair jobs. Brake and chassis applications can be narrower than the engine-parts range: the brake-pad example below covers 1975–1977 only. The 1976 GL1000LTD has a separate guide with a carburetor kit expressly listed for the Limited.

The GL1000 timing belt covers GL1000 1975–1979. The engine uses two belts, one for each camshaft. Sold individually; order two to replace both belts. Inspect the tensioners separately and follow Honda’s timing and tensioning procedure.

Which carburetor rebuild kit fits my Honda GL1000?
Carburetor kit 48-1404 covers 1975–1979. For a 1976 GL1000LTD Limited, deluxe kit 48-1669 has an explicit LTD application. Compare the carburetor identification and supplied jets, seals and float-valve pieces; a kit’s year range does not tell you how many carburetors it services.
How many timing belts does a Honda GL1000 need?
The GL1000 uses two timing belts, one for each camshaft. Belt 01-0142 covers GL1000 1975–1979 and is sold individually; order two to replace both belts. Tensioners are separate components. Follow the Honda workshop procedure for belt timing and tension.
What fork seals does a GL1000 use?
Fork oil-seal set 27-1026 is 36 × 48 × 11 mm and includes two seals for GL1000 1975–1979 and LTD 1976. Dust seals are separate and sold individually. Check the dimensions if replacement forks have been fitted.
Do the same brake pads fit every GL1000 year?
Do not assume that they do. Brake-pad product 29-3546 lists standard GL1000 1975–1977, with no confirmed 1978–1979 or LTD application. Match the exact year, brake position and pad shape; use the brake category for other applications.
